New Poll Shows O'Malley Leading Ehrlich
A new poll conducted by Gonzales Research shows Governor Martin O'Malley leading Bob Ehrlich by a margin of 48% to 39% with 11% undecided. The poll also shows that Senator Barbara Mikulski remains the most popular politician in Maryland.
The poll of 816 likely voters was conducted January 13th through 17th. The poll included voters from all parts of Maryland. The Governor's approval rating was down slightly from last year, but within the margin of error of the poll. A total of 46% of those polled approved of the Governor's performance while 36% disapproved. 18% had no opinion.
In the hypothetical election matchup, 73% of Democrats said they would vote for O'Malley while 16% favored Ehrlich. 8% of Republicans favored O'Malley while 81% said they would vote for Ehrlich. Interestingly, O'Malley led among men by only 44% to 42% while his lead among women was 52% to 36%.
The results were good for Senator Barbara Mikulski. 64% of those polled said they approved of her performance. 23% disapproved and 13% had no opinion.
The survey also showed that Marylanders approved of President Barack Obama's performance by a margin of 56% to 30% with 14% offering no opinion.
With data like this, it is no wonder that Ehrlich hasn't thrown his hat into the ring. It's looking more and more like he's going to take a pass on this election allowing the Maryland Democratic Party to focus on races further down the ticket.
