Navy Fleet Cyber Command Established at Fort Meade

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) issued this statement today following the official ceremony today to establish the new Fleet Cyber Command at Ft. Meade, Maryland:

“I’m so proud of the re-establishment of the Navy’s 10th Fleet today with the Navy Fleet Cyber Command at Ft. Meade. Every girl wants a fleet in her homeport, and I’m no exception.

“Locating the Navy’s new Cyber Command at Ft. Meade means new jobs in Maryland. It also means that Maryland’s unique knowledge, know-how, and can-do spirit will be used to make the nation stronger in the face of escalating cyber attacks.

“Our systems are being hacked and attacked. Cyber raiders are at work every day, trying to steal our secrets and bring our systems down. Navy ships, aircraft, and submarines deployed across the globe rely on a wide range of information systems to get mission orders, get intelligence, track ships and track weather. A cyber attack on those systems could be disastrous.

“I’m proud Maryland has been chosen for this mission. Already home to the National Security Agency, now home to the Navy Fleet Cyber Command and soon to be home to the Defense Information Systems Agency, Maryland is leading the nation in cybersecurity.”
